The duo made their debut together in 2011 when they released a jazz version of the Babes in Arms show tune “The Lady Is a Tramp.” The chemistry between Gaga and Bennett was apparent from the get-go as the cover marked the beginning of a long collaborative relationship.
Now, they’re getting set to release their second collaborative album in 2021 and will be taking to the MTV Unplugged stage to showcase their songs.
Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett will be performing at an undisclosed New York City location as part of the MTV Unplugged series this Friday, July 2 at 11 AM ET.
“Come witness a new chapter in Unplugged’s history as Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga grace the Unplugged stage for the first time, performing fresh renditions off their brand new Jazz standards album — and a handful of surprises you definitely won’t want to miss,” the ticketing website advertises.
The performance comes just months after it was reported that Bennett was battling Alzheimer’s disease. The 94-year-old singer was diagnosed in 2016, but didn’t begin showing signs of the disease until 2018.
"He works out five times a week, he sings twice a week with a pianist that comes over,” Bennett’s wife Susan Crow said at the time his diagnosis became public. “He only understands if something is an ouch then there's a problem. If you ask him how he feels, he says 'I feel great.'"
Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett recorded their upcoming album between 2018 and early 2020. No official release date has been announced.
