The Fresh Prince is getting dramatic.
Three decades after originally airing as a sitcom on NBC, the iconic "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" is being rebooted with a modern makeover.
Will Smith starred in the classic show” The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which aired for six seasons in the 1990s.
According to CNN, the dramatic update is entitled “Bel-Air" and will stream on Peacock.
Fans got an opportunity to get a glimpse with the release of the first trailer for the series. "Bel-Air" will be making its debut on February 13.
The new show will differ from the original half-hour sitcom as “Bel-Air” is an hour-long drama.
“Set in modern-day America, Peacock’s new one-hour drama series Bel-Air reimagines the beloved sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air through a new, dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air,” a synopsis for the show on YouTube reads. “As these two worlds collide, Will ... reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one she’s ever known,” the episode description reads.
In November, Peacock unveiled the a teaser trailer for "Bel-Air," which featured narration from the show’s original star.
Fresh off of "King Richard," Will Smith returned to his "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" roots to narrate the clip for the upcoming series.
Smith somberly spoke the iconic lyrics to the show’s original theme song alongside a clip of the new star of the show, Jabari Banks, swimming underwater before taking his seat on the throne. Banks, who will make his acting debut in the series, was hand-picked by Smith and the show’s creative team.
