Thanks to a crew of Florida rappers, a true American classic, Vanessa Carlton’s beloved 2001 pop hit “A Thousand Miles,” has transcended beyond the pop piano ballad we have all come to know and love to be remixed into a Hip Hop banger that we’re sure V-Car would be nothing but proud of, or at least find intriguing.
The song made extra famous from that car scene in White Chicks, has been sampled in the past by the likes of T.I. and Cam’ron, but never quite like this. Starting off with the familiar piano riff, accompanied by Vanessa's angelic voice, the track titled “Who I Smoke," flips just as the 45 second hits. When Spinabenz, Whoppa Wit Da Choppa, Yungeen Ace and FastMoney Goon all of whom hail from the Sunshine State, twist the song’s vibe into a different kind of bop, backed with bombastic beats, tapping trap drums, and some outrageously violent lyrics directed at their enemies.
With talks of “smoking” their opps, calling them out by name, Jacksonville rappers and gang members Bibby, Teki and Lil Nine, all of whom have been shot and killed.
Ummm, name dropping the deceased seems a bit questionable and slightly incriminating for the four rappers featured on the song. Despite the method, and that it’s a bop, they’re basically claiming their involvement in the crime.
If you’re wondering who this crew of misfits is, then just peep the music video below, which has already reached over 11 million views since its March 28 release. Depicting the rappers, clad in polo shirts and khakis, partying as they drive around a golf course.
In the events of it not being used as evidence in court we foresee "Who I Smoke” acting as a launchpad for the involved artists’ careers, and becoming a party banger, of course only when large gatherings are once again permitted.
