Whether you’re entertaining the idea of going vegetarian, just beginning your journey, or looking for inspiration, there’s plenty of artists in the music world that have made the decision to go meat-free.

From Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop, Pop, Country, and everything in between, here’s a look at some of the most famous musicians who have kept a vegetarian diet.

Shania Twain

Shania Twain

Twain is a devout vegetarian maintaining a plant-based diet also including cheese and dairy.

Joan Jett

Joan Jett

Jett has been a long-time vegetarian making the decision to go meat free in the 80’s. She continues to advocate for animal rights to this day.

Jerry Garcia

Jerry Garcia

Garcia became a vegetarian after encountering health issues and maintained the diet until he passed away in 1995.

Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin announced his decision to go vegetarian back in 2013. He’s fully embraced the diet with spiced mango chutney as one of his staple dishes.

Kesha maintains a vegetarian diet and frequently advocates for animal rights.

The Radiohead frontman is a long-time vegetarian having been meat-free since the 90’s.

Underwood keeps a mostly vegan diet these days, but went vegetarian at the age of thirteen and decided to stop eating meat. She was named the “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” by PETA in 2005 and 2007.

Harrison became a vegetarian in the late 1960’s once saying “the thing that repelled me about eating meat was the idea of killing animals. But the main issue is that meat-eating is not healthy and it’s not natural.”

The legendary jazz saxophonist kept a vegetarian diet. Ravi Shankar once described his surprise when meeting Coltrane that he was vegetarian and practiced yoga.

The British singer-songwriter notoriously keeps her public and private life separate, but has revealed her preference to keeping a vegetarian diet.

McCartney and his wife Linda were vegetarians for most of their 29-year marriage. The couple made the decision to go meat-free when Paul saw lambs in a field as they were eating a meal of lamb.
