If you’re still living in denial over the resurgence of vinyl records (and what a weird hill to die on), here’s a fact for you. Vinyl records just had their best week of sales in the past thirty years.

According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data (via Billboard), the week of November 27-December 3 saw 1.253 million vinyl albums sold. This represents the largest sales week for vinyl ever since Nielsen began electronically tracking music sales in 1991.
What caused the huge uptick in sales? A couple of factors. For one, Black Friday sales and promotion helped escalate sales to the new high. Additionally, Record Store Day’s Black Friday event helped boost sales. Independent physical store sales represented 542,000 vinyl albums sold during the November 27-December 3 time period, up 135% from the previous week.
Other mass retailers like Walmart, Target, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble also held promotions that led to increased sales.
This was only the second time weekly vinyl sales surpassed the one million mark since Nielsen began tracking in 1991. The only other time it happened was back in 2019 when 1.243 million vinyl records were sold in the week ending December 26, 2019.
