Rising 17-year-old artist, Tate McRae, has taken social media by storm with her melodic fresh voice, and incredible dance abilities.

Listen to your favorite Pop music now on RADIO.COM.

The young artist just released her brand new single "RUBBERBAND," and ahead of the new release McRae sat down with RADIO.COM’s Julia to share in the excitement of her first single released in 2021.

“The chorus is a banger, it’s just so good! I’ll literally just say that straight up, I think the chorus is really hooky,” gushes Tate when asked what her favorite part of “RUBBERBAND” is. Just like McRae’s song “you broke me first,” “RUBBERBAND” is a conglomeration of styles, undefinable, yet addictive and groove-centric.

McRae says that the topic for her new track is “interesting,” deeper, and different from what she’s discussed in previous songs. When coming up with what she wants to express through her music the artist goes through notes, journal entries, and even Pinterest to cull inspiration. She adds, “or I’ll literally just freestyle and whatever comes out is like my subconscious. If it’s meant to come out it will come out, like you’ll talk about it when you’re singing in a freestyle.”

Tate shares how “r u ok,” came about and tells us that after working with songwriter, Lowell, the two of them decided they wanted to write around a ukulele beat and focus on the topic of an indecisive ex. “We could literally make it into this whole story of you like mocking this ex, being like ‘are you ok!? You literally kicked me out of your life and now you want me back,’” explains McRae.

In terms of artists that the viral content creator looks up to, McRae shares how keen she is on punk rap currently. From Ian Dior to Kid Laroi, to Machine Gun Kelly, the up and comer not only has an admiration for the emerging genre but also has aspirations to dive into some punk rap music of her own.

In 2021 McRae has a lot to look forward to, even some upcoming performances. She adds coyly, “I’ve been working on a whole bunch of music and hopefully an EP coming out soon. So, a lot of things I’m stoked about.” Since 2017, Tate has been writing and recording music and now the artist is ready to give them a “home” and compile all of her best tracks thus far. We are excited to see where this TikTok Queen turned bedroom pop star goes next.
