While the project leaves nothing to question about the 29-year-old’s talent or songwriting skills, he has left us wondering — what exactly is a Gold Chain Cowboy?
“I definitely like to flex on ‘em a little bit. I like a nice watch or gold chain,” Parker explained. “[But] I don’t think [those things] mean much if you’re not well-mannered and carry yourself the right way, and work really hard to earn every one of them.”
“It’s kind of combining those two styles. And I was brought up that way, you know: Work very hard and try to go out and take care of yourself, and reward yourself for working hard, but carry yourself the right way. The more I thought about Gold Chain Cowboy, the more it just seemed to fit.”
McCollum leaned into the “Cowboy” side of the album title the night before the release by having dinner with Country legend, Randy Travis, at his home.
Parker and Travis both took to Instagram to share memories from the night as they sipped McCollum’s To Be Loved By You wine and played music.
“Just sittin’ around playin’ Country song with my new friend Mr. Randy Travis,” Parker captioned a video of himself covering George Strait’s “Carrying Your Love With Me,” as Travis smiled and swayed along. “A night I will remember for the rest of my life.”
“Come back over soon!” Travis commented on the post.
