This new music Friday (March 4) and one day after Camilla’s 25th birthday, brought the arrival of “Bam Bam,” the third single to debut off of Cabello’s upcoming studio album, Familia. The new track follows “Don’t Go Yet” and “Oh Na Na.”
In a recent Instagram post, the “Havana” songstress revealed that Familia will be dropping on April 8 and noted, “this album is my whole f***ing heart.”
On “Bam Bam,” the former Fifth Harmony member lays out the trials and tribulations she faced after her breakup from fellow Popstar, Shawn Mendes. However, the song is less about calling out Mendes and more about Cabello’s own recovery process.
The third single is the first new piece of music Cabello has released since announcing her mutual breakup with Mendes last November. The former couple shared a joint statement about parting ways noting that they “decided to end our romantic relationship” but would maintain their friendship and love for one another.
In the music video, Camila sings, “Yeah, love came around, and it knocked me down, but I’m back on my feet,” as she twirls through frustrating situations with newfound level-headedness. Throughout the visual, we see Cabello and Sheeran both embarking on drunken nights out to forget an ex, which ultimately leads to moments of levity and clarity.
In an Apple Music interview, Camila confirmed that Mendes was the inspiration behind the song after fans speculated for weeks across social media. She explained, “I think what we were trying to get across in the verse is just that things change and things take really unexpected turns.”
“And just showing that through the actual details of it. Because, for me, I f***ing love Shawn, and I feel like there is literally nothing but love for him. And this song is mostly just about like ‘okay, how do I make a song that shows the cycles of love and life?’”

Cabello and Sheeran’s collaboration on “Bam Bam” is not the first time the two megastars have come together on a song. The duo can be heard on Ed’s 2019 track, “South of the Border,” which also features Cardi B. The song comes off of Sheeran’s No. 6 Collaborations Project album.
