Viewers were the ones left puzzled on a recent episode of "Wheel of Fortune."
A contestant on the popular game show became the butt of the jokes on Twitter after he used the wrong letter for what seemed to be an obvious answer to people watching at home.
Three college students competed on "Wheel of Fortune" in honor of its spring break week, Fox News reported.
Host Pat Sajak asked University of Southern California junior Nico Fife to solve a puzzle that read, "LEAVING MY LA_TO_ AT HOME.”
Fife incorrectly answered with the letter “F” instead of “P,” which would have created the correct answer: “LEAVING MY LAPTOP AT HOME.”
The unfortunate error quickly became the talk of Twitter.
"Leaving my La_to_ at home. Was the puzzle on #WheelOfFortune dude said give me a F! With so much zeal! I can’t make this up! and he’s in college (USC). Goodness gracious," wrote one outraged viewer.
Another similarly reacted: "Oh Nico...an 'F'?...for crying out loud."
"DID HE REALLY JUST CALL AN F WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THIS THE TWILIGHT ZONE," added a third.
Fife managed to keep a positive attitude and took the public jeers like a pro.
After one viewer tweeted, "Something tells me Nico will see a lot of Fs in his college career,” Fife retweeted it.
But he also got a lot of love, as some praised the student for his good looks. One fan tweeted, “Saw the cutest person on wheel of fortune tonight...do you think I'd have a chance." Fife also retweeted it.
And he was also spotlighted by a Twitter account that highlights "hot guys on Wheel of Fortune."
Fife appeared to comment on the "controversy" of his answer and the hoopla it sparked by tweeting: "I was called a snowflake online does this make me an icon now."
Despite his spelling error, Fife still went home with $9,450 in prizes.
Earlier this month, fans of “Wheel of Fortune” expressed their frustration with a controversial rule game.
A contestant was disqualified after he accidentally used the word “and” while solving the remaining words in the puzzle.
In November 2019, Kristen Shaw made the same mistake. The minor flub cost her $1,950 and a trip to Nashville valued at over $8,000.
