Could it be that what started out as a wholesomely good idea during a time of need, is now being corrupted by a subscription fee? Let’s get to the bottom of it — here’s what we know.

VERZUZ, since its inception, has always been free for viewers, however a recent announcement on Instagram drove fans to think that a charge could soon be introduced.
While promoting the next battle between Anthony Hamilton and Musiq Soulchild battle on IG, VERZUZ revealed that instead of being able to view the event on IG Live per usual and as fans expected, it would solely stream on Triller instead, and as it seemed, with an added fee.
"THIS VERZUZ WILL NOT BE ON IG. Watch on VERZUZTV.COM with the #TrillerVerzPass (LINK IN BIO to sign-up for a 14-DAY trial)," the official VERZUZ handle wrote in the comments. And well… people weren’t having it.
While some complained about capitalism ruining a celebratory experience, others scolded co-creators Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. Many swore off VERZUZ all together, with no plans of tuning in if it requires some form of subscription or payment.
With that said, after a flurry of hateful tweets, Swizz Beatz took to Twitter to rectify the situation alerting fans that the upcoming “Verzuz will be on ig⚡️.”
Also alerting fans on IG, Swizz short and sweet, reassuring message.
“See y’all rite here tomorrow on insta @verzuztv 😂⚡️ Who y’all rocking with @anthonyhamiltonofficial or @musiqsoulchild ? You can also watch in HD on verzuztv.com . I was out the country don’t ask me who did it 😂 it’s fixed 🤷🏽♂️ bless up 🙏🏽 love y’all ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️”
Looks like that’s all cleared up. Anyway, check out a few of those backlash tweets that led to the correction, because they’re true, funny and also — why not.
