After stand-out collabs with other Country artists including Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert, Jason knew exactly what Carrie could bring to a duet, which put her at the top of his list when he was presented this duet, written by his band.

“We had a pretty short list and Carrie was at the top of the list,” said Jason. “So, we sent it to her and luckily, timing worked out to where she could get on the song and she came in and just nailed it. Took the song to a whole different place.”

Jason says the new track is a “Type A break-up song,” and somewhat reminiscent of his power ballad duet with Kelly Clarkson from 2010, but in true Jason style, it may not be exactly what fans expect to hear.

“The fact that we have this big, sort of power duet is really cool,” he tells Audacy. “I can really only think of one other time when we’ve done this and that’s when I cut the song with Kelly. It’s a really different kind of thing for me… I hope they [the fans] love it.”

Excitement surrounding the duet grew this week after Jason posted a photo teasing a new duet with a surprise artist asking fans to “guess who.” Guesses ranged from P!nk to Blake Shelton, Lainey Wilson and even his wife, Brittany. It wasn’t until Carrie Underwood chimed in the comment section with a “hand raised” emoji that fans connected the dots.

The news of Carrie and Jason collaborating has been extremely well-received by fans and leaves Jason with hopes that they will enjoy it for many years to come.

“I hope it’s one of those songs that sounds just as good as 10 or 15 years from now as it does now… I hope it’s something they weren’t expecting…. I always like to do stuff that is a little unexpected that we haven’t done before.”
