The five-man group including Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Brad Tursi, Whit Sellers and Geoff Sprung teased the new song for the first time via social media earlier this month with a video clip of the band jamming out in the studio.
“The story behind our song ‘I Was On A Boat That Day’ is one that started about six or seven years ago,” shared Ramsey. “For whatever reason, when we were… making this album, it came up again and we sort of laughed like it was a joke, but then our co-writers Shane McAnally, and Josh Osborne helped us see… It was actually a really fun title.”
He continued, “We had this idea that it needed to sound like a party and needed to sound a little, you know, intoxicated, so we drank some tequila and went in and did our best little party dance song and we had a really great time recording it and hope you have a great time listening to it.”
Two weeks after sharing the clip on their socials, the recently-named ACM Group of the Year deemed the song their new single to Country radio, with the release date of May 21. Additionally, the group revealed the official music video would release the same day.
“It’s just… a little heartbreak song about a guy who’s not really heartbroken in this particular moment ‘cause he’s on a boat and he’s having fun and I’ll deal with the rest tomorrow,” explained Tursi.
