BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) -- A Birmingham, Michigan homeowner and Air Force lawyer has been arraigned on multiple misdemeanors for a pool party at his house that stirred up a lot of controversy.
Alex Simpson, 42, pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct, breach of the peace, and public nuisance on Wednesday, July 22. Associates say he's concerned about jail time.
The charges come after prosecutors say Simpson allowed a wild party to happen at his home on June 13 that got so out of control that the national media dubbed it a 'twerkfest.'
A judge set his bond at $1,000.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reported Simpson rented the home to a friend, and while it started out as 50 people in the afternoon, the gathering ballooned to over 150 by the end of the night.
"Cars were parked all over, people were dancing on top of cars, not a lot of clothing either," Langton said.

Angry residents flocked to the City Commission complaining about the profane language in the music playing at the party, and saying they did not feel safe inside their own homes.
Simpson is a lawyer and works as a hearing officer in the city of Birmingham, a tony suburb just north of Detroit

The New York Post reported Simpson expected about 40 people, and had hired a security team to keep order.
He did, though, admit in court it got out of control, but thought the city's response was unwarranted. There were no injuries or threats or damage to property, only dancing and noise and chaotic twerking on the street. Neighbors told local media they were very upset when one women left the $1.5 million property in a thong bathing suit.
“We’re here today being arraigned on criminal charges, you know, for what was a pool party,” he said in court. “I’m an attorney. I’m in the military. You know, criminal charges can impact both my legal career and my military career, and this doesn’t seem like it’s warranted, you know, for what took place.”
Sompson added, "I think things have gotten … a little blown, you know, out of proportion.”
