FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - In the aftermath of the chaos at the Capitol building, American Airlines is taking extra precautions to ensure passenger safety.

The Fort Worth-based airline says it is beefing up staffing at airports in and around Washington, DC. They will also not be selling any alcohol on flights to and from the DC area.

The company told PEOPLE they "are working closely with local law enforcement and airport authority partners to ensure the safety of our customers and team members on the ground and in the air."

American says this change is at least through tonight, and that it is monitoring the situation.

The airline had already stopped selling alcohol in the main cabin on all flights due to COVID-19, but alcohol is still available in premium cabins.
