Pandemic staycations are so last year.

Travel continues to pick up with more and more of us are planning to take a trip this summer.

People are dying to get out of town, according to Irene Arbiv with Travel Darlings in San Francisco. She told KCBS Radio she’s hearing from a lot of clients a year after COVID-19 brought the industry to its knees.

"The hypothesis was that once the borders opened it’s going to be like drunken sailors," she laughed. "The pent up need for color, for something else, for something to look forward to is going to be high."

High it is.

A recent survey by Expedia Group showed more than half of us plan to take a trip this summer, and a one-quarter are looking to leave the country.

Andrey Zakharenko, owner of San Francisco’s My World To Travel, said that while demand is up, the coronavirus pandemic still is having an impact.

"The thing that people have to realize is that when you go to these places, especially early on, museums will still have limited capacity, some restaurants will still be closed," he said. "So it’s not going to be the same vacation."

Zakharenko also noted that airfare and hotel prices are on the rise, so people should plan ahead.
