A new airline from the founder of JetBlue will take off on May 27, offering incredibly cheap airfare in the southeastern United States.
USA Today reports that Breeze Airways' launch was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic, but they are soon offering flights out of four major airports - Tampa, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Norfolk, Virginia.
Once their launch is off the ground in time for Memorial Day, they plan to offer additional flights as far north as Providence, Rhode Island, and as far south as San Antonio, Texas.
Travelers can buy tickets starting now with prices as low as $39 each way for roundtrip tickets.
That said, the fares won't stay this low as they are just introductory prices. The cheapest seats will come in limited quantities.
The airline's unofficial mantra is, "We'll get you there twice as fast for half the price," as they aim to connect travelers to smaller cities with nonstop flights.
Breeze CEO David Neeleman says, "They go into a market where five people a day are traveling between a route, and the next thing you know there's 100 people."
Thanks to smaller planes, the airline is able to offer lower prices than its competitors. Additionally, the airline claims that 95% of its routes have no nonstop competition.
"We're going to generate 10 times more people than we'll ever take from anyone else," Neeleman added. "If you're sitting in Columbus, Ohio, and you want to go to Charleston, South Carolina, and can do it for 69 bucks then you're just going to go. You're going to go more often."
Bag fees come at just $20 for a carry on or a checked bag with travelers allowed one free personal item that can fit under the seat in front of them.
