A Northern California woman has come away with $1.3 million in treatment costs after a bout of COVID-19 last year.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Vacaville resident Patricia Mason was hospitalized for the virus last year in March and April.
The outlet notes that Mason and her husband owe $42,184.20 out of that total cost. Her hospital stay in the coronary care unit at NorthBay Medical Center was $479,162.40 while her pharmacy charges were more than $470,000 and the respiratory charges were more than $166,000.
She and her husband, who have nine children and work five jobs, told the outlet that they "don’t have $42,000 to spare."
She is insured by her husband's union insurance.
"The California resident thought either all out-of-pocket expenses for treatment would be waived "to make sure people weren't slammed with bills" or that her bill would be roughly $5,000," according to a People story.
