Despite reports of a chlorine shortage, a longtime North Texas pool maintenance specialist says there is enough supply to keep your pool sparkling clean for the upcoming season.
Tim Mott, known as The Pool Guy, said chlorine quantities were already a bit tight before a fire sparked by Hurricane Laura destroyed the Louisiana plant of BioLab, one of the nation's largest suppliers of chlorine tablets. According to CNBC, the facility is not expected to be back in operation until early 2022.
Despite the difficulties, Mott said suppliers are able to get pool chlorine from other sources, and that the shortage reports have been overblown. He added there is no need for homeowners to panic and buy up existing supplies. That, he said, will only create artificial shortages, like the nation saw with toilet paper at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Mott said the bigger issue in his business is the ongoing trouble with finding pool parts to repair the extensive damage left by the crippling February winter storm. Pumps and filters remain very scarce, and Mott said it could be the end of this year before stockpiles are replenished. For homeowners who are still waiting for pool repairs, he urged patience and understanding of the current situation.
