Gretna Police in Louisiana have charged a woman with murder after they say they found her dead baby in a porta potty near the Waffle House on the Westbank Expressway.
Deputy Chief Jason DiMarco says they were called to reports of a bloody woman near the scene, and she told them she had a baby in a nearby portable toilet.
"They found a porta potty, and the went in there looking for it. Sure enough, unfortunately, the horrible scene of a newborn inside the tank of the porta potty. It appeared to be lifeless."
He says the coroner determined the baby had been born alive.
She is hospitalized and under arrest for second degree murder.
He says they will book her into jail when doctors release her.
DiMarco says 37-year-old Lekesha Lemelle is homeless.
