No, it’s not just a plotline from the recent season of HBO’s “Euphoria” – a “sugar baby” controversy is currently rocking the U.S. Department of Homeland Security according to reports.
In an exclusive report from the Daily Mail, the outlet said a man claimed that a top counterterrorism official in the Trump administration is a “sugar baby,” defined by Dictionary.com as “a younger person who provides romantic companionship or sexual intimacy to a wealthy older person in return for gifts or financial support.”
That official said the claims are just a ploy from her jilted ex-boyfriend to get back at her.
According to the Daily Mail’s report, 29-year-old Julia Varvaro allegedly seeks “sugar daddies” to maintain her lifestyle. The New York Post said Varvaro was put on leave after an ex-boyfriend filed a claim with the DHS accusing her of swindling him out of $40,000 during a three-month relationship.
“Julia Varvaro is on administrative leave as a result of the investigation and she is no longer serving in her capacity as a Deputy Assistant Secretary at DHS,” the DHS said in a statement cited by the Post. It identified the man as a decades older divorced business executive “known only as Robert B” who reportedly met Varvaro on the dating app Hinge in December.
Varvaro was listed as deputy assistant secretary, counter terrorism in a DHS organization chart. She is a distinguished alumna of St. John’s University.
“I did not want a sugar daddy/prostitution relationship, after spending $30,000-$40,000 for vacations, Cartier jewelry, expensive handbags, and various shopping trips,” Robert B. wrote in his DHS complaint, according to the Daily Mail. However, he also said that Varvaro told him that she had $40,000 worth of jewelry from sugar daddy relationships.
Robert B. said he believes Varvaro is “under financial stress and that her actions pose a security risk,” and once said that ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] works for her while they traveled. He claims that he also found a profile for her under the name Alessia on the website Seeking.
During their brief relationship, he claims to have paid for trips they took to Italy, Switzerland and Aruba. As they traveled, Varvaro allegedly opted for the most expensive items on menus.
He even whined that he “dropped $1,400 on their first date and got nothing more than a kiss,” per the Daily Mail.
Varvaro denies the man’s claims.
“I didn't know it was bad to go on vacation with your boyfriend,” she said. Varvaro also said the man was “mad” and “putting crap together.”
A DHS Office of the Inspector General spokesperson told Fox News Digital the office has “a longstanding policy neither to confirm nor to deny the existence of any specific investigation,” and added that it could not provide additional details.
Last year, First Lady Melania Trump took a stand against jilted exes who post revenge porn of their former partners. This year, the DHS has already been hit with a scandal related to former DHS head Kristi Noem’s husband Bryon and his expensive participation in the “bimbofication” fetish.
