Now, you'll know exactly when someone is standing too close to you.
Home security company SimpliSafe has revealed a holiday sweater that will alarm when someone stands less than 6 feet away from you in the name of holiday social distancing.
With the pandemic in full swing this holiday season, many are wondering if it's safe to gather with loved ones in light of the holidays. Small gatherings are now made even safer with the addition of these holiday sweaters.
The Social Distancing Sweater is equipped with motion sensors, sirens, and flashing LED lights that will all be triggered when someone stands a little too close for comfort.
SimpliSafe creative director Wade Devers said in a news statement, "Heading into the holiday season, it became clear that the typical stressors and logistics of the holidays were going to be exacerbated this year. We saw an opportunity to tap into these challenges and the pervasive sentiment of unease."
He continued, "As the experts on protection, albeit home protection, we wanted to give people a playful way to protect themselves during this year's holiday celebrations. It's really meant to bring some lightheartedness to a time that's otherwise proven very stressful."
The Social Distancing Sweater is only in its prototype phase, but SimpliSafe will be giving away a limited quantity of replicas. These versions of the sweater don't carry the same electronics and sensors as the prototype.
All you have to do to snag one of your own is donate via their website. All proceeds will go towards NeighborWorks America, working to benefit the Rental Resilience Fund which helps keep those negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic housed.
"Skilled tinkerers" are welcome to wire the sensor-less version of the sweater themselves to create their own Social Distancing Sweater that really works.
