Hurricane Ida makes landfall on Louisiana coast

The National Hurricane Center says the eye of Hurricane Ida hit the Louisiana coast near Port Fourchon in LaFourche Parish.

It came after the hurricane rapidly intensified in the Gulf of Mexico and became a major, category four hurricane.

It happened at 11:55am.

Ida had winds of 150 miles per hour as it approached the coast.

Winds had been 105 miles per hour Saturday night, but quickly got stronger early Sunday morning.

The forecast track calls for the eye of the hurricane to move near Houma, Thibodaux before heading for Walker in Livingston parish... then into Mississippi.
