The internet has a lot of hilarious thoughts about the name of newly approved COVID drug bamlanivimab

What does the latest coronavirus treatment drug sound like to you?

That’s the question many are trying to answer after the FDA granted emergency use authorization (EUA) to pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly’s new monoclonal antibody therapy, reported CNN.

The experimental drug has been approved for treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adult and pediatric patients over the age of 12.

While this is great news as the pandemic continues to spike around the country, many have become preoccupied with the drug’s tongue twister of a name: bamlanivimab.

While neither a cure nor a vaccine for coronavirus, bamlanivimab has definitely been on the mind of many Americans.

Taking to Twitter, users quickly pointed out the drug’s name sounding like a lyric from the track “Black Betty,” covered by artists such as Ram Jam, Tom Jones and Spiderbait.

Comedian Patton Oswalt joked that another rock legend was behind the moniker.

Another made reference to Bill Hader’s “SNL” character Stefon by insinuating the drug sounded like a trendy Manhattan hotspot.

The therapeutic even drew comparisons to Missy Elliott’s 2002 hit “Work It.”
