Kohl’s recalls more than 500,000 candles due to fire, burn hazard

Kohl’s is recalling over half a million candles after some were found to pose a risk for fire and burn hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the recall on the chain’s SONOMA Goods For Life branded three-wick candles and noted the candle's “high flames can ignite the wax's surface and cause the glass to break,” reported ABC affiliate WBND.

The recall includes more than 20 varieties of candles in multiple scents.

The candles were made in China and sold at Kohl’s stores and online between December 2019 through October 2020.

Kohl’s has received 29 reports of the candles having high flames and causing the glass to break, including five incidents leading to minor burn injuries. In addition, six incidents noted there was minor property damage including burn marks on carpets and countertops.

Anyone in possession of the SONOMA Goods for Life candles should stop using them immediately and return them to Kohl’s for a full refund or store credit.

The candles come in a glass container which lists the fragrance, style number, UPC and date code on the bottom. For a full description of all candles in the recall click here.
