With the coronavirus pandemic causing much uncertainty around group gatherings, schools have faced challenges when deciding how they were going to operate when students return in the coming months.
As new hot spots emerge and coronavirus cases increasing among children, many schools are opting for remote learning options for their kids, hoping to curb the spread of the virus in the classroom setting.
Here are some major cities that are choosing to go the route of non-traditional learning styles for the sake of their students and staff, according to CNN:
Atlanta

Atlanta Public Schools announced in July that the first nine weeks of the school year would be held entirely virtually, and the start of the school year would be pushed back from August 10 to August 24, allowing for teachers to pre-plan their coursework.
Dallas

Dallas Independent School District is allowing parents and students to choose between in-person learning and virtual instruction.
Detroit

Like Dallas, Detroit is offering up an option for parents and students. Participants are able to choose between in-person learning and remote courses for students. Students attending school will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and have their temperatures checked.
Houston

Houston Independent School District will hold online instruction only for the first six weeks of the school year. Beginning on October 19, they hope to hold in-person classes.
Los Angeles and San Diego

Both Los Angeles Unified School District and San Diego Unified School District are the largest school districts to nix any type of in-person learning for their students when courses reconvene in August.
Miami

Miami-Dade County Public Schools are offering the options for students to choose a blended model of both in-person and virtual learning or strictly remote coursework.
Nashville

Nashville public schools will hold virtual learning opportunities through at least Labor Day, originally hoping for an in-person model to take place. Recent case numbers have forced them to opt for remote learning models.
New York City

NYC is opting for some, limited in-person learning for the fall paired with remote classes. Students have the ability to attend school from one to three days per week.
Philadelphia

Philadelphia Independent School District plans to reopen with a blend of in-person learning and remote learning. Students will meet physically two days a week.
San Francisco

Public schools in the area will begin the school year entirely online. They hope to eventually opt for a hybrid approach of in-person and remote learning.
