Oklahoma County authorities arrested a 32-year-old man after he used a shovel to dig near the county jail in an apparent attempt to reach his incarcerated girlfriend. Deputies caught Jake Minervini-Blue outside the facility on Friday, June 12, 2026, and quickly booked him into the same jail he tried to breach.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted Minervini-Blue digging by the south wall of the Oklahoma County Detention Center while en route to the facility. When questioned, the man first said his girlfriend was inside the jail. He later changed his story, claiming he was simply trying to plant a flower. A records check revealed he had an active out-of-state warrant, leading to his arrest.
During the booking process, detention officers discovered a ferro rod — a fire-starting tool — on Minervini-Blue. The sheriff’s office noted the ironic outcome in a release, stating that Minervini-Blue had been “reunited with his girlfriend behind the bars of the Oklahoma County Jail.” No injuries were reported during the incident, and the attempt caused no damage to the facility or disruption to operations.
The Oklahoma County Detention Center, located in Oklahoma City, houses both male and female inmates and processes hundreds of bookings each week. This unusual case highlights the constant vigilance required by jail staff and deputies to maintain security around the perimeter.
The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about the girlfriend’s status or the nature of the out-of-state warrant. Minervini-Blue faces charges related to the warrant and the attempted unauthorized entry.
