A mother in Florida is speaking out about the importance of taking COVID-19 seriously.
Anna Celis, whose household has come down with the virus, hopes others will heed her warning and not end up in the same situation.
Celis lives with her husband, her twin babies, her older daughter, and her mother. WFLA notes that some of them have tested positive for the novel virus, while others are exhibiting symptoms and still awaiting their results.
“You know, this is real, having my son being a medically complex child has been my biggest fear and it’s happening now. I’ve always been a big advocate for people to follow the guidelines and wear their masks and I can’t believe people don’t think this is real,” Celis said.
Her husband was the first to note any symptoms when he came home complaining of a headache.
“My husband suffers from asthma and he’s been having a hard time breathing and my daughter is a healthy baby and she’s been having a hard time keeping her oxygen levels to a normal point,” she explained.
When her son came down with a 104 degree fever, the family gave “him a bath,” some “medication,” and immediately called the pediatrician.
Celis noted that everyone in the family mostly has the same symptoms including the loss of taste and smell, which is one of the most common symptoms, according to the CDC.
“You can’t smell anything, you can’t taste anything. It’s not fake. I can’t believe two days ago my husband was telling me, I can’t smell anything and yesterday I couldn’t smell my babies’ shampoo,” she added.
Celis wants everyone to take the proper precautions to prevent the spread including social distancing and wearing face masks.
As the debate over whether schools should resume in-person classes in the fall wages on, Celis believes it wouldn’t be wise to return to the classroom until the virus is under control.
“My daughter is (having) really high fevers, she’s coughing, she has runny noses, and she is really uncomfortable and having a hard time keeping her oxygen levels, so I don’t think kids should be back in school,” she said.
