A family is mourning the loss of a mother of two who slipped and fell while hiking.
Cassandra Bravo passed away after being rescued from Mt. Whitney in California, two days after her fall.
According to PEOPLE, she spent two nights in freezing cold temperatures before being found “down a steep slope of rock.” She reportedly made her way behind a large tree stump for safety.
The GoFundMe page set up by her family said she slipped and fell about 100 feet. Her family began to worry when she didn’t return from her hike on Thursday.
The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office found her car at Mt. Whitney Portal in Inyo National Forest shortly after.
Her boyfriend, father, and friends assisted rescue teams in the search on Friday.
On Saturday, the 34-year-old was found wearing only a tank top and leggings. Throughout the two nights, temperatures reportedly reached a wind chill of -20 degrees.
The outlet notes she was alive and mumbling when she was found.
She was airlifted to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The GoFundMe page is now raising money for her two children.
“Those of us that knew Cassandra knew she was a FIGHTER and STRONG,” the fundraising page read, adding, “We know she fought to stay alive.”
The single mom worked as a registered nurse in the urgent care center and emergency room at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to the page.
“She was an amazing nurse. She leaves behind her two beautiful children whom she LIVED for,” it read. “She was an amazing person with a take it or leave it personality that really enjoyed life.”
A total of more than $55,000 was raised as of Thursday evening.
