A Wisconsin woman is facing a competency hearting later this month after allegedly taking a fire truck for a joyride while wearing only her birthday suit. Records from Kenosha County show its not her first run-in with the law.
According to Kenosha County Eye, 36-year-old Emily Fair is accused of stealing a Pleasant Prairie, Wisc. firetruck while naked and then making “bizarre” transmissions over the department’s radio channel. She allegedly drove the vehicle through the town of around 21,800 people.
Fair was arrested for charges that include operating a vehicle without owner consent and released Aug. 4 after her bond was set at $200. During a hearing that day, her attorney raised concerns about her competency, prompting the court to order a competency evaluation, Kenosha County Eye said.
FOX 6 said that hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26 in a report citing from the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office and Wisconsin Circuit Court. Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office records show that Fair was previously booked in 2020 and twice this year.
“Pleasant Prairie Fire Chief Craig S. Roepke told Kenosha County Eye the incident resulted from an unusual set of circumstances after a department vehicle was inadvertently left outside with its keys inside while firefighters were outfitting a new apparatus,” said that outlet. “He said the firefighter responsible immediately accepted responsibility and described the incident as a ‘perfect storm’ rather than a pattern of negligence.”
In a report for WISN via CNN Newsource, Ty Dysart said police caught body camera footage of the incident. Per Dysart’s report, Fair turned on the vehicle’s emergency lights and was found in the nude when police finally tracked her down near a Department of Public Works garage. It was around 1 a.m. when the strange scene played out.
“Why are you naked right now?” a police officer could be heard saying in the body camera footage.
“I am supposed to be meeting someone,” she responded. Later, officers found her dress in the bed of the truck before taking her to get checked out and then taking her into custody.
As for those “bizarre” dispatches on the radio, Dysart said they included Fair saying: “I’m hungry. You got food in there?”
If Fair is convicted of the charges she faces, she could pay a $10,000 fine, Dysart said.
