Delivery services have been working around the clock this year to deliver presents to everyone celebrating a socially-distanced Christmas.
One neighborhood in Chester County, Virginia, is saying thank you to their UPS driver that has worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to deliver packages to people along their route.
Anthony Gaskin has worked hard on deliveries in Chester County for 16 years, according to Good Morning America. His job often includes delivering up to 180 packages a day.
Resident Patty Friedman wanted to express her gratitude for Gaskin’s contribution to the community throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
“He kept being an uplifting, positive, warm and caring part of our lives, without even walking in our doors,” Friedman said. “Anthony was a constant. He made things feel more normal.”
On December 15th, more than 100 people from Gaskin’s route stood outside with signs, thanking him for his year of service.
“It really stands out when you recognize the risk that he put himself through, the fact that the volume of boxes he was delivering was more at a holiday level,” she said. “It was [to show] gratitude and appreciation for simple acts of kindness on his part.”
Gaskin was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.
“I wasn’t quite sure what was going on at first,” Gaskin said. “It felt like my heart was going to jump out of my body. To tell you the truth, I'm not used to that kind of attention. So it was a total surprise.”
Gaskin is back on his route working this holiday, and has a message to share with others.
“During the holiday season and during this pandemic, I like to remind everybody that a lot of people out here are a lot less fortunate than we are. Reach out and try to help somebody else during this holiday season,” he said. “In the world, regardless of what's going on … people still genuinely care.”
