House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has joined Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in calling for the vice president and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office.

"The President of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America," Pelosi said. "The gleeful desecration of the U.S. Capitol, which is the temple of our American democracy, and the violence targeting Congress are horrors that will forever stain our nation’s history, instigated by the President of the United States. That’s why it’s such a stain."

The Speaker made the remarks at her regular weekly news conference following Wednesday’s riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Pelosi went on to say the "seditious act" involved "unspeakable assault on our nation and our people" by President Trump.

The San Francisco Congresswoman took it a step further, threatening impeachment if the president's Cabinet did not act with urgency. "While it's only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show for America," she added. Pelosi singled out individual members of the Cabinet and Vice President Mike Pence, saying she hoped to hear from Pence by the end of the day.

"In terms of the Inauguration...I don't trust whatever the president might have in mind," Pelosi said. "I think he's a very dangerous man."

"If he wants to be unique and be doubly impeached, that's kind of up to him and his Cabinet as to whether he should stay in office," she added.

Earlier Thursday, Schumer released a statement calling for the 25th Amendment.

Several other lawmakers have done so, including members of Congress and governors.
