Governor Doug Ducey has put a ban on public events with more than 50 people in attendance due to an uptick in coronavirus cases, causing many Arizona cities to cancel their Fourth of July fireworks shows.
Before the order was in place, a few cities had canceled their shows anyway. These cities include Anthem, Avondale, Buckeye, Fountain Hills, Phoenix, and Tempe, ABC15 reports.
Now, more cities have also canceled their spectacles, following the governor's orders. These cities include Chandler, Gilbert, Goodyear, Peoria, and Surprise. Schnepf Farms has put their foot down on the in-person event, but will still put on a show for viewers to watch from home.
"Arizonans should celebrate the 4th of July responsibly this weekend, including by staying home, avoiding larger gatherings, and wearing a mask if you do go out," a tweet from Gov. Ducey reads.
However, cities do have the ability to decide to hold public events under the condition that they abide by physical distancing measures to avoid coronavirus exposure, according to a news release from the Governor's Office on Monday.
Many cities have transformed their Fourth of July celebrations into drive-in events.
Previously, Ducey announced the closures of bars, gyms, movie theaters, and tubing operators until at least July 27th. He also recommended that the start of in-person schooling in the fall should be delayed.
