A woman who was recently arrested for refusing to wear a mask in a private business has been arrested again for continuing to ignore requests.
Terry Wright, 65, was arresed by Galveston Police on March 11th for refusing to wear a face covering while inside a local Bank of America. The bank reportedly had signs posted requiring masks to enter and do business inside the building and had asked Wright to cover her face, which she refused.
Video of the incident was released by the Galveston Police department and quickly went viral this week. Wright was charged with resisting arrest and criminal trespass.
Wright was again arrested on Wednesday, March 17th by Texas City police at an Office Depot for the same thing, refusing to cover her face inside a private business that requires it.
Police reports say that Wright, who is a resident of Grants Pass, Oregon, was asked to leave the business by employees for not wanting to cover her face.
Wright was taken into custody on warrants related to the Galveston incident on March 11 and no additional charges were filed, police said. She was transported to the Galveston County Jail.
On March 10th, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ended the statewide mask mandate and allowed all businesses to fully reopen, but added that the removal of the mandate does not remove individual responsibility to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Abbott also said that individual businesses could still set their own policies for requiring of masks to enter.
Abbott also said if COVID-19 hospitalizations increase above 15%, county judges could reinstate previous COVID-19 restrictions at their discretion.
