Former President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden found an unlikely ally to support a bid for him running for a presidency he's never sought. Donald Trump.

Biden has been at the center of conservative conspiracy theories and pundit analysis after a laptop he lost in his drug addicted days turned up in a pawn shop.

Since then, Hunter Biden has gained a significant following on social media by addressing his past with frankness and humor. He has engaged in discussions about his past drug addiction, legal troubles, and famous family, challenging misconceptions and misinformation.

He's even discussed how he wanted to commit suicide during his addiction.

All of that being said, no one would expect President Donald Trump to be a fan. He notably abhors any kind of addiction -- doesn't even drink alcohol since his older brother died early from alcoholism -- and Hunter's dad Joe Biden is one of his number one enemies.

Still, Trump said on Thursday that Hunter Biden "could do well" in a 2028 presidential campaign if he chose to run.

"Hey, if the guy from Maine can do well," the president continued. "Well, I guess Hunter could do well, too, because the guy from Maine is a basket case."

He was comparing him to Graham Platner, who is seeking the Senate seat in Maine and "faces a myriad of campaign controversies stemming from his deleted Reddit account, a Nazi-linked tattoo, hard-drug use, sexting allegations and a newly-released New York Times report detailing his alleged behavior with ex-girlfriends," per FOX News.

Hunter Biden is a former addict with a messy dating past that includes an illegitimate child and a relationship with his brother's widow.

Trump went on to compare him to James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Texas.

"And I would say worse than him is the one from Texas that looks like Alfred E. Neuman," he said "I would say that if he can do well, maybe Hunter can do well. I'm not sure, it'll be pretty close as far as I'm concerned."

For his part, Biden has expressed surprise at the positive reception he has received on social media and has dismissed claims that his reemergence is politically motivated.

He said he's determined to use his platform to help others struggling with addiction.

He also tells jokes and lays bare political opinions.

For instance, he "clarified" that he meant to call Trump immigration czar Stephen Miller a "sadistic, infantile ugly" expletive, not just "ugly." Hunter Biden later responded to a typo in the word 'election,' with, "I've never stolen an erection in my life."
