Following the collapse of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire and reported death threats against President Donald Trump, the commander-in-chief said late Friday that the U.S. has 1,000 missiles pointed at Iran.
In a Truth Social post, he wrote: “1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!”
This week, the Wall Street Journal revealed in an exclusive report that Israeli intelligence provided information to the U.S. about an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. Iran has made threats against the president’s life since the killing of Iranian IRGC Quds Force Gen. Qassem Soleimani by the U.S. in 2020, years before the current conflict between the two nations began in February.
Since Trump announced that month that the U.S. had joined Israel to attack Iran, the conflict has dragged on, causing death, destruction, ballooning global oil prices and slipping poll numbers for Trump. Peace talks resulted in a brief ceasefire in June, but negotiations have been thorny. In particular, Iran has been reluctant to agree to the U.S. demand that it abandon its nuclear program.
During the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in Turkey this week, Trump confirmed that the ceasefire is over. He also expressed wariness over further negotiations with Iran, called their leadership “scum” and said he wanted to get the war over with. Trump’s Truth Social post seemed to echo that sentiment.
“Orders have already been given, and the U.S. Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran - PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!” he said.
