The system that could do this has yet to form.  Computer models agree something will develop soon.

The Hurricane Center advisory says that environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development in the next few days.

"A tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form late this week or over the weekend."

The advisory says that once that happens, the system will move into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.

"Conditions are expected to be favorable for additional development."

The Hurricane Center acknowledges much remains unknown.

"Uncertainty remains large since the system has yet to form. Interests in these areas should closely monitor the progress of this system and ensure they have their hurricane plan in place."

The Air Force Reserve is ready to send a reconnaissance aircraft to investigate the system Thursday afternoon, if necessary.

Formation chance is 50 percent through Friday and 80 percent by Monday.
