A woman who was nearly run over by a truck got out of harm's way thanks to some quick thinking and impressive agility.
A camera mounted onto the bike of a New Zealand cyclist in Taupo, New Zealand captured the close-call moment.
The clip, which was taken April 16, shows the woman set off on her bike in a quiet suburban neighborhood. As she reaches the end of the street, she checks both directions before making a turn.
When she checks left, the cyclist is faced with a huge white truck cutting the corner and racing directly towards her.
“Hey, Stop!” the woman pleaded out. The large truck made no efforts to slow down, and the woman was forced to quickly jump off her bike, saving her life at the very last second.
“You were not looking,” the woman is heard saying after the crash.
Jeff Lim, the cyclist’s husband, explained in the caption of the clip that he shared on YouTube that his wife escaped with only bruises and bumps, and damage to the bike.
The man said that he was thankful for the driver behind the truck who helped her get home safely, as well as a couple of pedestrians who helped push the bicycle home.
The truck driver did get out of the car and was apologetic. Lim says, "As much as the driver of the truck was at fault here, there is no need to bash or flame him. Police have all the details and are dealing with the incident."
Lim continued, “I am sharing this video to raise awareness for everyone driving to share the road carefully and to look out for cyclists, as they are the most vulnerable people on the road.”
