At 82 years old, La Verne Ford Wimberly always dresses her best.
The Oklahoma native has gained attention across the internet for wearing her stunning Sunday outfit despite her church holding virtual services amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Fox 29 reported.
For 52 weeks since March 2020, Wimberly showed off her most extravagant outfits to watch the Metropolitan Baptist Church's virtual church service in Tulsa from her home on Zoom. Every week, the 82-year-old would post a selfie on her Facebook page along with an inspirational message.
Wimberly started to post pictures on social media to make everyone smile during a scary time.
“I decided to take a selfie of myself and post it to my church members on Facebook and just kind of offer words of encouragement,” Wimberly said. “That if we continue to believe in ourselves, network together, trust in God, keep the faith then we will be okay.”
Each outfit that Wimberly wore was color coordinated with a matching hat. She explained how watching virtual services in casual clothes wasn’t appropriate.
“I like dressing up first of all,” she continued. “And then I did not want to get in the habit of just kind of being disheveled and not looking my best. I wanted to continue to be motivated to always look my best no matter what’s going on in my life.”
Wimberly explained how she is shocked at all of the attention her selfies have received.
“It’s amazing, and I still cannot believe that I’m getting all this attention,” she said.
In March 2021, Wimberly ended her pictures after places of worship began to open. She said her church has not resumed in-person services but plans to do so in several weeks.
