If you’re part of the handful of people wondering if the coronavirus panic is necessary, the wife of a Connecticut man who tested positive for the virus wants you to know it’s “more than hysteria.”
According to a GoFundMe page set up by the man’s wife, the man first began experiencing symptoms in late February after attending a work conference in San Francisco.
The first symptom was feeling tired, which was quickly followed up by a fever that they believed was attributed to the flu, according to the Connecticut Post.
Unfortunately, it was much more than that.
“He quickly progressed to bilateral pneumonia and was hospitalized a week later in respiratory distress,” she wrote on the GoFundMe, saying he is now in the ICU in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator.
The woman, who is now quarantined at her home with her two twin son’s despite showing no symptoms – the CDC notes spread can happen prior to developing symptoms – is hoping for the best.
She’s been updating his GoFundMe page constantly adding that she cannot return to work for the the foreseeable future.
The most recent update revealed that the doctor’s have seen improvement in the man's condition and hope to wean him off the ventilator soon.
“I know some people are saying this is hysteria, but I think it’s really important for people to take this seriously,” she reportedly said. “My husband got really sick, really fast,” she added.
“He can fight this thing I know it,” she wrote on the fundraising page. “I miss him so much. I had to replay some old voicemails back from when we were dating, to hear his voice… I can’t wait for the day I can hug him again.”
The Wilton man, whose identity is being withheld to protect his privacy, is one of three confirmed cases in Connecticut, according to The New York Times. Since he returned home feeling ill, his exposure with the public was limited.
The GoFundMe page has almost reached its $100,000 goal.
