Petco Park was host to thousands of fans before the Padres’ 4:15 p.m. game on Saturday. The woman, 40-years-old, has not been identified yet and fell off the stadium’s dining concourse around 3:50 p.m., police said.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures on the two for 20 minutes, but they were pronounced dead on the scene. An investigation is ongoing as San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown told KSWB-TV that “We do not know the circumstances surrounding it.

“We do not know if it was accidental or intentional,” Brown said.

Police were talking with the child’s father and witnesses who were at the ballpark at the time.

“We feel horrible for the families, and our hearts obviously go out to the family members, but also the people here that potentially could be traumatized,” Brown said.

A man said that his wife saw the woman fall and told him it looked like the little boy fell first and that the woman was trying to catch him, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

“It’s a tragic event,” Brown said.

The investigation is ongoing as homicide investigators attempt to determine what happened that caused the tragic event to unfold.
