A 22-year-old woman took to Reddit with an interesting quandary about an inheritance she received from her recently passed paternal grandmother.
When this woman was little, she damaged one of her grandmother's books and hid it from her. She went to her parents with the news, where they told her they would handle grandma. Well, her parents came back later with the news that Grandma didn't want anything to do with them, and they would no longer see each other.
The woman was obviously devastated, believing that her grandmother was so mad about the book, she never wanted to see her again. Well it turns out, her parents were lying the whole time.
The woman's mother had an affair that resulted in the birth of her baby sister. The grandmother was not happy, and said that while she would look after the sister, would not take on a grandmotherly role.
The woman's parents gave the grandmother an ultimatum: Either care for both girls as if they were her own grandchildren, or never see them again. The parents called her bluff, and the relationship ceased.
After the woman discovered the lie, she reconnected with her grandmother, who passed a few months later, and upon her death left her an inheritance to her and her alone.
Upon receiving the inheritance, the woman's parents then demanded the woman share it with her sister, but she now refuses due to the "damage they caused" her over the years.
She took to Reddit to see if she was in the wrong for keeping her inheritance away from her sister, and the response was overwhelmingly in her favor.
Per Cafe Mom, one person wrote, "You poor thing thinking your grandma didn't want to see you anymore because of the book: You must have been racked with guilt, when it was stupid adult problems all along." Someone else wrote, "Yes, they didn't want to traumatize their child so instead they decided to ... traumatise their other child." One person simply stated, "Your parents are psychopaths."
