The Best Hotels in Wrigleyville

Chicago has a lot of great neighborhoods, all with tremendous boutiques and high-end luxury hotels -- but you don’t care about any of that because every baseball fan knows the only place to stay in Chicago is in Wrigleyville. For decades the working class area surrounding Wrigley Field was dominated by rowdy sports bars and waves of fans. It definitely wasn’t much of a place to stay for a few nights. Luckily many of those venues are still alive and kicking (thank god for Nisei), but Wrigleyville has also experienced an influx of capital, bringing new businesses, including hotels.

There are now several great options for lodging near the stadium, so you barely have to leave Wrigleyville at all if you so choose. Here are our favorites.

Hotel Zachary

If you can swing it (no pun intended), a room at the super-luxe Hotel Zachary is just about the best place to stay for a Cubs game. Right across the street from Wrigley Field, the hotel is a gleaming new counterpoint to the old school buildings nearby. Named for and inspired by Zachary Taylor Davis, the Chicago architect behind Wrigley, Hotel Zachary boasts elegant rooms with chic, vintage-esque furnishings. The glittery building complex also includes a suite of restaurants, including upscale American Dutch & Doc’s, elevated tavern Brickhouse, and taco stunner Big Star.

The Wheelhouse Hotel

It’s clear from the moment you walk in the front door that the Wheelhouse is a hotel for baseball fans. The lobby is decked out with an old scoreboard and baseball bats. Many of the rooms, like the Bullpen Terrace Suite, feature playful, themed decorations too. Dining options include an old school candy shop/bodega, a neighborhood American restaurant, and a friendly cocktail lounge, all fueling up visitors to explore Wrigleyville.

Majestic Hotel

The Majestic also takes note of its location with a clear baseball theme, but that American influence inside the hotel is balanced against the vibe of an English estate outside. Cubs paraphernalia surrounds a cozy fireplace, the perfect place for visitors late in the baseball season to relax after a game. Rooms are simpler in decoration but supremely comfortable.

Hawthorne Terrace Hotel

The Hawthorne Terrace by Best Western offers a minimal, refined place to stay over in Boystown. The accommodations won’t blow you away, but they’ll do the job. The usual treatment is on display: free breakfast, gym and wifi. More to the point, the hotel is just a 15 minute walk from Wrigley Field, so you can stumble back to your room at any wee hour after celebrating a win at a Wrigleyville drinking hole.

City Suites

The City Suites Hotel sits straight south of the stadium in the center of Lake View, and the walk up to the stadium will take you through a broad stretch of Wrigleyville. Decorations at the boutique outfit are playful, with bright colors woven into throwback art deco stylings. That energetic style extends to the cheery staff, who are happy to help you explore the city with recommendations.
