The former dentist, who practiced for 46 years, was surrounded by family and friends to celebrate his big day at the Bristal assisted-living community in East Meadow.
Last year, his birthday celebration was a virtual affair. It was held over FaceTime due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Grochow said to keep his brain sharp, he solves difficult math questions every night and still works out every day.
"My secret is be a good person, be kind to everyone, don't think you're better than anyone else, eat well, exercise, sleep well and that's it," Grochow said.
His son said they have longevity in the family and that his father was only seriously ill once in his life when he had typhoid at 15 years old.
Grochow said he misses his wife dearly. She died at the age of 94 in 2014. They were married for 72 years.
Grochow has two children, four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He spends time with all of them.
