From Brady Sluder’s spring break posse to hoopsters continuing to populate local courts, not everyone is heeding Dr. Anthony Fauci’s warnings when it comes to the coronavirus. That includes a certain All-Star third baseman and his recording artist fiancé. Former Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez, co-headliner of February’s Super Bowl halftime show, were seen exiting a Miami gym together Wednesday in spite of a recent “stay-at-home” order issued by Florida governor Ron DeSantis.
The power couple seemed to be exercising caution—Francesca Bacardi of the New York Post noted that Lopez’s security guard was wearing a protective mask and made sure to open the car door with a sanitizing wipe. Even so, the optics of appearing at a gym amid an unprecedented pandemic are questionable. Most gyms across the country have shut down to encourage social distancing, a widespread practice aimed at “flattening the curve” in America’s ongoing fight against the coronavirus. The Sunshine State has been particularly hard-hit by the crisis with over 7,000 native Floridians affected by COVID-19.
Celebrity has its advantages and apparently access to a closed workout facility is one of them. Notice the sign outside reads “The gym is not open. Stay home, stay safe.” On Wednesday, A-Rod and J-Lo did neither.
