Reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers was a no-show for the start of OTAs earlier this week, instead vacationing in Hawaii with his fiancée, actress Shailene Woodley. Rather than hide that fact, the longtime Packers quarterback has been all over social media, hiking and partying with actor and noted Philadelphia sports fan Miles Teller. Here, Rodgers can be seen singing Taylor Swift songs, enjoying a bottle of red, slow-dancing with Woodley and even strumming on the guitar.
Judging by these videos, football seems to be the furthest thing from Rodgers’ mind right now. The 37-year-old largely ducked questions about his future in Green Bay when interviewed by Kenny Mayne earlier this week, but did acknowledge a difference in philosophy, suggesting his rift with the Packers has been building for some time. It remains to be seen whether the two can mend fences, though his teammates, including wide receivers Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard, seem to have Rodgers’ back. In solidarity with their starting quarterback, all three have been absent from OTAs this week.
With no trade on the horizon, some have wondered if Rodgers would consider hanging ‘em up, preferring retirement to laboring through another frustrating season in a place he doesn’t feel wanted. The future Hall-of-Famer has kept plenty busy this offseason, guest-hosting Jeopardy! for a two-week stretch, attending the Kentucky Derby and now partnering with Bryson DeChambeau against Tom Brady (who he lost to in this year’s NFC Championship) and newly-crowned PGA Champion Phil Mickelson in a televised golf event scheduled for July 6th on TNT.
