Grizzlies (+4) vs Warriors
The NBA’s primetime game on Christmas Day features the upstart Memphis Grizzlies visiting the reigning champion Golden State Warriors in a rematch of last year’s Western Conference semifinals. But while the Grizzlies have established themselves among the elite teams in the Western Conference this season, they’ve continued to struggle on the road. The Grizzlies have lost five of the seven road games in which they’ve been favored this year, which speaks to Memphis’ road woes, although they’ll be underdogs against the Warriors on Sunday. Of course, Golden State heads into Christmas losing seven of nine games. In fairness, the Warriors are still 12-2 SU at home this season, as their recent slump has mostly come away from home. However, they are a more modest 9-4 ATS when favored at home, giving the Grizzlies a fighting chance, especially with Stephen Curry sidelined and Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins both missing games at the end of the team’s recent 1-5 road trip. DePaul vs Creighton
The Big East will get all of the college basketball headlines on Christmas Day with the Creighton Bluejays hosting the DePaul Blue Demons. Both teams are in the midst of a slump and in need of a win. The Bluejays were flying high at 6-0 and up to 10th in the country when they lost a close game in the Maui Invitational finals to Arizona. They compounded that loss with losses to Texas, Nebraska, Arizona State, and others, failing to get back on track. To be fair, 7’1’’ center and leading scorer Ryan Kalkbrenner missed a few of those losses because of COVID but is now back with Creighton. DePaul has no such excuse coming off an 83-45 loss against Chicago-area rival Northwestern, the third loss the Blue Demons have suffered in their last four games. DePaul has taken its lumps this season, especially on the road, so a trip to Creighton with the Bluejays back at full strength might be too much for the Blue Demons to overcome.
