Wake Forest (-1) vs Missouri
College football fans can enjoy some Friday night lights this week with the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa between the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Missouri Tigers. This will be the first of two ACC vs SEC bowl games with the Demon Deacons favored only by a point. Unlike some teams, Wake Forest figures to have the services of their starting quarterback for their bowl game. Despite an uneven end to the season for the Demon Deacons, Sam Hartman threw 35 touchdown this season. That includes 11 in Wake’s final three games, so the Demon Deacons should be able to put some points on the board. Even in their 1-4 finish, Wake Forest averaged 30.4 points per game over those five games. The Tigers might have a hard time keeping up if this becomes a shootout. Missouri was held to 24 points or less in eight of 12 games this season, totaling 13 passing touchdowns all year. With leading receiver Dominic Lovett heading to the transfer portal, that task becomes even greater. Lions (-2.5) vs Panthers
Are the Detroit Lions a legitimate playoff contender? Oddsmakers are finally starting to show the Lions some respect for this week’s game against the Carolina Panthers. For just the fourth time this year, the Lions are favored, and for the first time, they’re favored on the road. When Jared Goff and the Detroit offense get rolling, the points can pile up quickly. In their last six games, the Lions are averaging 30.2 points per game. To be fair, the Lions have a tendency to give up points just as quickly as the Detroit offense can score them. The question is whether the Panthers can take advantage of such a porous defense. Since Sam Darnold took over as Carolina’s starting quarterback, he hasn’t completed more than 14 passes in a game and thrown just three total touchdowns in three games. That doesn’t sound like an offense that can keep up in a shootout if the Detroit offense is clicking. To get NFL betting picks and advanced stats for every NFL game this week, check out BetQL.
