The Buffalo Bills started the 2019-20 NFL postseason off with a bang.
Quarterback Josh Allen led the offense down the field in just six plays to score a TD on the opening drive against the Houston Texans on the road, which was capped with some trickery.
Allen faked a handoff to Devin Singletary and tossed the ball to wide receiver John Brown on what appeared to be a reverse, but Brown stopped in the backfield and Allen took off down the left side and Brown connected with him for a 16-yard touchdown to open the game.
The play looked like a variation of the “Philly Special” that the Eagles ran in Super Bowl XLII in 2018.
Allen had set the offense up for a scoring drive just two plays earlier when he rushed for 42 yards on a QB sweep. By the end of the drive, Allen was the teams’ leading rusher with his 42-yard run and the leading receiver with his 16-yard reception. Meanwhile, Brown was the leading passer with his 16-yard TD pass.
The Bills entered Saturday’s game looking to end a 25-year drought of the franchise’s last postseason victory. Allen was making his first career playoff start after an inconsistent second season in the NFL.
Allen finished the first half with 131 passing yards and was the team’s leading rusher with 52 rushing yards as the Bills held a 13-0 lead over the Texans.
