Of all the names dropping off the Red Sox' active roster for COVID-related issues, this one most likely stings the most.
Xander Bogaerts has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Red Sox shortstop was pulled out of the Sox' lineup in the second inning of his team's game against the Rays at Tropicana Field, being replaced at shortstop by Yairo Munoz.
The team announced the COVID diagnosis a brief time after Bogaerts' exit.
Bogaerts joins Kiké Hernandez, Christian Arroyo, Martin Perez, Matt Barnes and Hirokazu Sawamura as the group of Red Sox players currently quarantined for 10 days with COVID. Josh Taylor is also in quarantine, being identified as a close contact participant.
