The Gwinnett Stripers sure hope this Ronald Acuña Jr. guy can make it at the next level.
The Atlanta Braves announced that their star outfielder was returning to the roster on Thursday for his first game back in nine months after tearing his ACL in his right knee last July.
Perhaps one of the best reactions to the news on social media came from the Braves’ Triple-A affiliate, Gwinnett Stripers, where Acuña had been playing his rehab games in the last week.
Of course, Acuña is long past his prospect days, but he put up some pretty good numbers during his rehab stint with Gwinnett.
In six games, Acuña went 7-for-19 (.368) with a double, six walks and six strikeouts. He played nine innings in the field for the first time on Wednesday, signaling that he was ready to return well ahead of his May 6 target date.
“If I’m playing, it’s because they feel I’m ready to go,” Acuña said after the game, per MLB.com. “And I feel good.”
Acuña was pretty darn excited about getting the call, too.
